Offensive outburst sees FSCJ on top against EWU JV

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - FSCJ made the short trip down I-95 into downtown Jacksonville on Wednesday afternoon to take on Edward Waters University (JV) at historic J.P. Small Memorial Stadium. This was the second of four matchups between the two Jacksonville institutions, with the second home-and-home coming in early April. The Blue Wave came out victorious by a score of 19-11 in an offensive outburst by both sides. The win takes their record to 3-3 on the young season.

FSCJ 19, EWU 11

After a scoreless first inning, FSCJ struck first with five runs in the second inning. The scoring would open with a Kobe Wiggins sacrifice fly followed by back-to-back-to-back RBI singles from Sam Gordon, Xavier Cintron, and Jack Gidcumb. The score would become 6-0 in favor of FSCJ in the top of the third on another Gordon RBI base hit. EWU would respond with 8 runs of their own in the bottom of the third to take an 8-6 lead on a conglomeration of errors, walks, and well-hit balls. The deficit would grow to 9-6 for the Blue Wave, but the damage was limited by back-to-back inning ending double plays by Noah Wood, throwing out two runners at home plate from the outfield in his first career start in the field. The Blue Wave would respond by putting up a second 5-spot of the day in the top of the fifth inning. Mac Wilkins hit his first career home run in his first career start, a three-run shot to left that tied the game at 9-9. Blake Wood followed with an RBI double, and Carson Womer contributed the team's second sacrifice fly of the day moved the game back into a lead for the visitors from North Jax, this time at 11-9. This would be the final lead change of the game. The boys in blue tacked on three more in the sixth, on Jack Gidcumb's towering three-run home run over the right field monster, his first of the year. The homestanding Tigers put together yet another rally, scoring two in the bottom of the seventh, climbing back to 14-11. FSCJ posted their third 5-run inning of the game in the eighth, scoring on a Blake Wood RBI single, Josh Green RBI single, and Mac Wilkins RBI single, taking the score to its final of 19-11. The game would end in 8 innings due to the run rule.

Blake Wood led the Wave with four hits on the day, while Sam Gordon and Xavier Cintron both had three. Jack Gidcumb, Noah Wood, and Mac Wilkins had multi-hit games. Josh Green collected two hits as well in his first game back from injury. Gidcumb and Wilkins had 4 and 5 RBI in the game, respectively.
