FSCJ falls to Lake-Sumter

FSCJ falls to Lake-Sumter

Florida State College at Jacksonville baseball played Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) in a Sun-Lakes Conference matchup this weekend. The first game was played in Leesburg, while the second and third games were played in Jacksonville. LSSC took all three games in close fashion.

Lake-Sumter 4, FSCJ 2

The opener of the weekend series was a low scoring affair. Lake-Sumter opened with a run in the bottom of the 1st, and that score held at 1-0 until the 5th when they added three more on a home run and a double to make it 4-0. FSCJ clawed back in the 8th inning when they put up two runs to cut the deficit in half, on RBI hits by Pedro Morales and Alex Monile, but ultimately the score held final at 4-2. Monile had multiple hits, including a double. Ashton Nugent hit a triple. Cayden Robinson (1-5) took the loss for FSCJ, throwing 4.1 innings, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits, 0 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Dylan Cope (1.2 IP), Connor Nelson (1 IP), and Ethan Wilford (1 IP) provided 3.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Lake-Sumter 6, FSCJ 4

As the series moved to Jacksonville, the tight games continued. L-S plated single runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings to take a 2-0 lead, before FSCJ answered back in the 4th on a Aidan Hampton solo home run, his second of the season. Lake-Sumter took advantage of BlueWave free passes in the 5th to score 4 more runs and extend their lead to 6-1. FSCJ would not go down easily as they scored 2 in the 5th on a Carson Womer 2-RBI double, and another run in the 6th on a Billy Girgis RBI single. A double play ended the game in the bottom of the 7th with the tying run at the plate. Noah Wood led the charge offensively, going 4 for 4 with a double and run scored. Brady Ellison (4-4) took the loss on the mound, going 3.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, 5 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Josh Rouw allowed 4 in 1 IP. Ethan Carroll was great in relief, going 2.1 scoreless innings, while Jayden Long got the final out.

Lake-Sumter 6, FSCJ 5 (10 innings)

Game three was another nail-biter in the series, with a back and forth action lasting all game. FSCJ struck first in the bottom of the 1st on a Alex Monile RBI groundout. The lead grew to 2-0 in the 3rd on a Carson Womer sacrifice fly. L-S used a two out rally in the 4th to tie the game with three hits in the inning. FSCJ took the lead back at 3-2 in the bottom half of the 4th on a double steal, before the LakeHawks again responded back to tie the game 3-3 in the 5th. They then took the lead in the top of the 6th with two more runs, again with two outs, making it 5-3 in favor of Lake-Sumter. The BlueWave answered right back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the 6th to tie the game at 5-5 on a Billy Girgis RBI groundout and a Alex Monile RBI single. The game held serve at 5-5 until the top of the 10th, when Lake-Sumter singled home the go-ahead run. Girgis and Noah Wood had multi-hit games. Jaden Paradoa started on the mound for FSCJ, going 5.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Ethan Wilford allowed 2 runs in 0.1 IP. Gant Geiger was excellent out of the pen, going 3.1 scoreless innings pitched, striking out 4 to 0 hits and 0 walks. Jayden Long (1-1) took the loss in extras, throwing 1 inning, allowing 1 run on 3 hits, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts.
