Late rally not enough as FSCJ drops midweek to Santa Fe

Florida State College at Jacksonville baseball hosted Santa Fe College for a midweek matchup on Tuesday. This was the first of two midweek matchups, with the second being next Tuesday in Gainesville.

Santa Fe 4, FSCJ 3

FSCJ again found themselves in a tight game on Tuesday, battling with the Santa Fe Saints. Quiet frames early turned into a close contest, with SF striking first in the top of the 3rd, capitalizing on a couple hits combined with BlueWave errors, taking a 2-0 lead. That lead was cut in half in the bottom of the 4th on Matt Retamoza's first home run of the season, making the game 2-1. Single runs in the 7th and 8th scored for the visitors on balls in play just out of the reach of FSCJ defenders. FSCJ made it interesting in the bottom of the 9th as they cut the lead to 4-3 on a Alex Monile pinch-hit two-RBI single, scoring Isaac Newman (double) and Noah Wood (single). The tying and winning runs were left on base when the final out was recorded.

Retamoza and Billy Girgis had multi-hit games for the BlueWave. Dylan Peck started on the mound, going three innings, allowing two runs ( one earned) on three hits, no walks, and two strikeouts. Ethan Yesensky dazzled in relief, throwing two shutout innings, striking out five to only two walks and no hits. Josh Rouw collected two outs before Dylan Cope got out of a bases loaded jam, ultimately going 1.1 innings and allowing one run. Connor Nelson (0-1) took the tough loss, going the final two innings, allowing one run on two hits and one strikeout.
