Key hits push PHSC past FSCJ

Key hits push PHSC past FSCJ

Florida State College at Jacksonville baseball battled with Pasco-Hernando State College in a Sun-Lakes Conference matchup this weekend in New Port Richey, FL. PHSC took all three games of the series.

Pasco-Hernando 5, FSCJ 1

A 7:00 PM first pitch created a dual under the lights to start off the weekend series. Both teams traded zeroes on the scoreboard early in the game before Pasco-Hernando was able to sneak a two-run double down the third base line and grab a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning. Single runs in the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings brought that lead to 5-0 for the home team. FSCJ plated a run in the top of the 8th on a Mac Wilkins two-out RBI single, scoring Sean Esquinaldo to make the score 5-1.

Brooks Hicken had a multi-hit game. Cayden Robinson (1-6) took the loss for FSCJ, throwing 4.1 innings, allowing three runs (2 earned) on five hits, four walks, and five strikeouts. Ethan Yesensky (0.2 IP, 1 R), Ethan Carroll (1 IP, 0 R), and Dylan Peck (2 IP, 1 R) pitched in relief.

Pasco-Hernando 6, FSCJ 3

The front end of the Saturday doubleheader saw 1st inning fireworks on both sides. Matt Retamoza crushed a two-run home run to left field to put FSCJ up 2-0. PHSC responded with a two-run homer of their own and another run on an error to plate three runs and take a 3-2 lead after one. That score held serve until the 5th inning, where the Bobcats chased 3 more runs home to extend the lead to 6-2. An Ashton Nugent sacrifice fly scored Braden Kessel in the top of the 6th to bring the final to 6-3.

Matt Retamoza recorded a multi-hit game. Brady Ellison (4-6) took the loss for FSCJ, pitching 4.1 innings, allowing six runs (5 earned) on seven hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Dylan Cope and Ethan Carroll combined for 1.2 scoreless innings of relief.

Pasco-Hernando 9, FSCJ 2

The final game of the weekend on the turf of Pasco went the way of the home team. A two-run homer opened the scoring at 2-0 PHSC in the 2nd. An unearned run in the 4th and a 4-spot in the 5th made the score 7-0. Back-to-back sacrifice flies by Brooks Hicken and Billy Girgis brought the deficit down to 7-2. PHSC tacked on two more in the 7th to make it 9-2.

Noah Wood and Matt Retamoza recorded hits for the BlueWave. Jaden Paradoa (1-3) started for FSCJ, going 3.2 innings, allowing three runs (2 earned) on four hits, three walks, and three strikeouts. Ethan Wilford and Connor Nelson contributed scoreless innings in relief.
