Road trip results in mixed results for BlueWave volleyball

The BlueWave of Florida State College at Jacksonville took to the road once again, this time headed to Pensacola, FL to face Santa Fe and then Pensacola on their home court the following day.

FSCJ suffered a second consecutive disappointing five set loss to the Saints of Santa Fe College. The Saints came out ready to play from the opening serve and immediately had FSCJ down 0-2. Santa Fe was firing on all cylinders and seem to do no wrong in the first two sets. Then with a sense of urgency knowing their backs were against the wall and a conference championship on the line, the BlueWave began to fight. FSCJ managed to pull everything out they had and win the next two sets to even the match and force a fifth and deciding set.

The BlueWave took an early two-point lead which soon evaporated, as the Saints were determined not to go away easily. Teams traded points for a moment, until Santa Fe took a two-point 8-6 lead mid-way. The Saints would use precision tactical blocking from their middle blockers to handcuff the BlueWave offense. SFC fought of a relentless comeback effort but the BlueWave stifled themselves with costly errors down the stretch. That was enough for the Santa Fe Saints to seal the victory to earn a second consecutive conference Championship.

Day two found the BlueWave ready to bounce back. FSCJ displayed an all-around effort from the team, but was led by Marine Angely's 22 kill performance. Jana Cuk was perfect with 10 kills with no errors, Ketura Margaret had a breakout game with 8 kills with only 1 error, Leah Mortensen had a career high 41 assists, Dyrenna Harris led the team with 5 Blocks while Krystal Santiago chipped in with 26 digs.

FSCJ would take a 3-1 victory over host Pensacola State to lock up a second-place finish in the conference. This win secures them a spot in the second-place team's playoff on the 24th. The BlueWave playoff opponent will be determined following their match against the Daytona State this Tuesday.
