BlueWave pick up second win on the road versus Eastern Florida

Men's Basketball is knocking on the door of 2nd place in the Mid-Florida Conference with a win over Eastern Florida this past weekend.

The Florida State College at Jacksonville men's basketball team took to the road heading south to Melbourne, FL to face Eastern Florida State College on their home court. In the prior two meetings of conference action the two teams split victories with FSCJ defeating Eastern on the road 60-59 with a buzzer beater followed by the Titans of EFSC defeating the BlueWave at home 61-47. With the start of the final round of conference play this game carries some weight for the winning team.

From the tip both teams showed an incredible defensive performance. The first half of play found the BlueWave at a nine point disadvantage heading into the locker room down 31-22. The second half showed the same promise for FSCJ as EFSC had them down by 15 at one point. The BlueWave rallied back into battle to take over the final minutes of the game to claim a second victory in Titan territory.

FSCJ shot 48% from the floor and an impressive 57% from the 3pt line and 94% from the free-throw line to pick up their second victory. The BlueWave were led in scoring by Eddie Davis who had 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Johnny Brown added 18 points and 6 rebounds. Chris Clark had 14 points and he led the BlueWave in rebounds with 7. This game marks a 3 game win streak in conference play for the BlueWave.

With this conference win, the BlueWave men's basketball programs 5 wins (thus far) this season marks the first time since the 2012/2013 season the team has had this many total conference wins. In fact, the team has won more conference wins this season than the last 3 conference seasons combined. "The rebuilding of FSCJ men's basketball is due to the hard work of Coach Burnell and his student athletes", said Athletic Director Ginny Alexander.  "Coach Burnell took over the program in the summer of 2018 with a much greater task than people realize. He not only had to rebuild the program, but had to do it with national and regional powerhouses like Eastern Florida (who joined the MFC last year) and College of Central Florida in a triple round robin conference format."

The men return home on Wednesday to host Florida Gateway College at 7:00 pm. The following Saturday is a conference home contest for the men's basketball team is this Saturday at 4pm versus College of Central Florida.  The Women's Basketball Team will play at 2pm versus CCF in a doubleheader format.
