Former FSCJ Volleyball Player Jennifer Torres is named NAIA Defender of the Week

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana volleyball standout Jennifer Torres has been selected NAIA National Defender of the Week for Oct. 19-25.
The NAIA announced the award Tuesday.
Torres — a senior libero from Jacksonville, Fla., and a graduate of Trinity Christian Academy and two-year Florida State College — set a XULA match record of 37 digs in a 16-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-23, 15-12 victory Saturday at William Carey. Torres produced 13 digs in the fourth set. For the match she had 24 receptions of serve without an error.
Torres became the first XULA player to reach 30 digs in consecutive matches. She had 32 digs one week earlier in a five-set home loss to William Carey.
Through Monday Torres ranks 17th in the NAIA with 5.74 digs per set. A second-year XULA athlete, Torres ranks 13th all-time at the school with 593 digs.
Torres is XULA's second to win an NAIA volleyball weekly national award. Teammate Eva Le Guillou was Setter of the Week for Oct. 29-Nov. 4, 2018.
XULA's final match of the fall semester will start at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 — two weeks from Friday — against the University of Mobile at UM's Pharr Gym. During the spring semester there will be additional matches, 12 against Gulf Coast Athletic Conference opponents.
