FSCJ Baseball tops off season on the road at South Florida State College

Florida State College at Jacksonville baseball matched up with South Florida State College (SFSC) in a Sun-Lakes Conference series this weekend in Avon Park, FL.  

South Florida 12, FSCJ 11

A walk-off left FSCJ on the wrong end of a 12-11 defeat to South Florida State on Thursday evening. The game was tied at eleven in the bottom of the thirteenth inning when a sacrifice fly won the game for the Florida State College Panthers.

Despite the loss, the BlueWave did collect fourteen hits in the high scoring affair. An RBI double by Brooks Hicken started the scoring in the top of the first. After giving up one in the bottom half, FSCJ extended their early lead with two more runs in the top of the second thanks to additional RBI singles by Sean Esquinaldo and Noah Wood

After South Florida State scratched a run across in the second and another in the sixth, the BlueWave offense responded with five runs in the top of the seventh, with three of those runs coming from a Matt Retamoza homerun. SFSC answered with four runs in the bottom half of the seventh, one in the eighth, and two more in the ninth to tie the game at ten to send the game to extra innings.

The score remained scoreless until the thirteenth when Matt Retamoza singled in Dylan Cope to give the FSCJ the lead. Unfortunately, the Panthers responded with a homerun and a sacrifice fly to get the walk off win.

Cayden Robinson started on the mound for the BlueWave. He went 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts, allowing five runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks. Connor Nelson had four strong innings in relief, allowing two runs on three hits with five strikeouts. Jayden Long, Dylan Cope, Ethan Wilford, and Ethan Carroll also pitched in relief for the Wave.

Matt Retamoza and Mac Wilkins each collected four hits for the BlueWave. Pedro Morales and Brooks Hicken both had multiple hits.

 

South Florida 7, FSCJ 0

Game 1 of the double header was a one sided affair. South Florida State took the lead early and never looked back. Brady Ellison toed the rubber for the BlueWave. He went five innings allowing five runs (two earned) on seven hits, two walks, and three strikeouts. Dylan Peck pitched one inning in relief, allowing two runs (zero earned) on one hit and two walks.

Carson Womer lead the offense for the Wave with two hits. Noah Wood had a hit and got on twice via walks.

 

South Florida 11, FSCJ 3

The South Florida State College Panthers defeated the FSCJ BlueWave thanks in part to six runs in the fourth inning. The BlueWave scored early on as Carson Womer scored on a passed ball in the first and Ashton Nugent hit and RBI single in the second. 

The Panthers scored one in the second and then proceeded to flip the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring six runs on one hit to take a 7-2 lead.  

Jaden Paradoa got the nod in game three. He surrendered three hits and six runs (two earned) over 3.2 innings pitched, striking out five and walking four. Gant Geiger, Josh Rouw, and Ethan Carroll combined for three innings of relief.

 Carson Womer reached base safely three times in the game, scoring two runs. Ashton Nugent had a multi hit game.
