Cross Country Races Against DI Competition, Women Finish Ahead of Region Rival
23 teams competed at the Osprey XC Invitational hosted at the University of North Florida Hayt Golf Complex on Friday night.
The consistent rain that Florida has experienced in recent weeks made for challenging course conditions, including mud pits down the home stretch and at the finish line.
The women's team finished in 10th, four points ahead of Region 8 rival Tallahassee State College. The squad was once again led by team captain Zahir Miller, with teammates Lauren Hughes and Faith Harrold both posting personal best times.
The men's team finished in 8th, with newcomer Benjamin Hale leading the pack for the second straight week. Gershom Allen and Kaydan Bowie battled the tough conditions to post their own personal bests.
"The 5k challenge lived up to its name - those were the most challenging conditions I've ever seen," said head coach Jody Hale. "We raced very well and it's amazing we had four runners set personal records."
