FSCJ Men's and Women's Cross-Country teams finished their statewide competition this past Friday in Tallahassee.
The BlueWave Women finished 3rd overall out of the nine state teams. Freshman Shealyn Barbuto (Flemming Island, FL) led the women's team with an 8th place finish overall. Shealyn was followed closely by team captain Hannah Zeigler (Jacksonville, FL) and Ally Newkirk (Jacksonville, FL).
The Men's team finished 4th in a region meet and continues to remain ranked overall in the top 20 in the nation. John Bear (Orange Park, FL) led the BlueWave men and captured 6th place. Bear also garnered All-Region VIII honors for the season. Gage West (Flemming Island, FL), Ken Aldrich (Yulee, FL), and Drew Stone (St. Johns, FL) finished 18th, 19, and 20th, respectively.
Head Coach Jody Hale remarked, "I'm very proud of the results from all of the runners. Bear is the first FSCJ All-Region male cross-country runner since 1992. We also beat two teams ranked ahead of us on the women's side"
The BlueWave will send several of the top runners to the NJCAA National Cross-Country Championships on November 14th in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
