'A Few Kind Words Can Brighten a Student’s Day': FSCJ Volleyball Teams Up with Post It Love
The Florida State College at Jacksonville women's volleyball program teamed up with Post It Love (PIL), an organization based out of Texas that is helping bridge the gap between mental health and education. According to PIL students who received weekly positive affirmation showed a 27% increase in reading comprehension scores over one semester.
Before practice, the team got together to write and decorate over 200 encouraging notes for elementary students. Every player used their creativity to put together special inspirational notes such as: "Never Stop Trying!", "You're A Smart Cookie!", "Follow Your Dreams!", and much more.
"Writing the Post It Love notes was a wonderful experience because it allowed me to express my feelings in a simple, yet meaningful way," said freshman Lexi Pacheco. "It means a lot to me to see how a few kind words can brighten a student's day and make them feel appreciated."
Post It Love is supported by over 2,000 volunteers from 45 states to offer a scalable, cost-effective solution to a growing national problem while demonstrating small acts of kindness to children in hopes of leading to substantial improvements in children's mental health and academic success. "Spreading love through art and creativity is so exciting," said freshman Hailey Tharp. "It doesn't take much to make someone happy sometimes and knowing that the cards my team and I created could be the reason a child smiles that day, it is truly heartwarming."
