Saints Pull Away Late in Non-Conference Action
Fresh off their trip to Illinois to open up the 2024 season, FSCJ Volleyball traveled to Gainesville to take on the Saints of Santa Fe College.
The home team got off to a hot start 13-6 and maintained that early lead to 21-13 before rattling off four straight points to put the set away 25-13.
FSCJ raced out to a 6-1 lead to start the second set. The Saints narrowed the score to 11-8 before FSCJ reasserted dominance and sealed the set 25-17.
The Manta Rays' momentum continued into the third, but the Saints finally turned tide to make it 7-6. The teams would trade off the next 8 points before the Saints took a 13-10 lead. A FSCJ timeout couldn't stop the Saints, who extended their lead 21-13. The Manta Rays roared back to close the gap 21-19 but the Saints would go on to win four of the next six points and the set 25-21.
The fourth set started as a back and forth battle that left teams even at10-10, but the Saints were first to gain an edge and advanced to 14-11. The teams split the next 10 points to get to 19-16, and a FSCJ timeout could not halt the Saints as they won six of the last seven points to take the fourth set 25-17 and the match 3-1.
Next up is a trip to Walterboro, South Carolina on Thursday to take on USC Salkehatchie at 5 p.m.
