FSCJ Volleyball competes in Hillsborough Community College Invitational

The Florida State College at Jacksonville volleyball team hit the road to participate in the HCC Invitational in Tampa, FL this past weekend.

Friday morning FSCJ took the court to face the Polk State College Eagles who are currently 6-3 this season. Defeating the Eagles in the first set 25-20 FSCJ started out strong. However, the next three sets would find them falling short giving Polk State the win. The second match of the day found FSCJ facing the 2022 DI National Champions, Florida Southwestern Buccaneers (13-0). The young team could not keep up with the defending champions and fell in three sets.

Day two held a similar story for the FSCJ volleyball program. First match of the day had them facing #17 ranked team in the country, Daytona State College (10-4). A slow start gave Daytona the lead they needed to pull away with the morning win. The final match of the day was scheduled against the host team Hillsborough Community College Hawks (9-5). FSCJ closed out the tournament falling behind to HCC.

"This weekend was filled with highly competitive programs," said first year head coach Chelsea Hinck "we definitely took a plunge being a part of this tournament. As a team we gained much needed experience on the court, showed great versatility, took some risks and had waves of great moments. No doubt the experience we gained from this tournament will help us moving forward."

Wednesday, September 13th volleyball will host the St. John's River State College Vikings in the first home match of the season. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
