BlueWave Athletics announces the addition of Beach Volleyball for 2020-2021

The FSCJ Department of Athletics is excited to announce the addition of Beach Volleyball as a sport for the 2020/2021 academic year.

Beach Volleyball is one of the fastest growing sports and an emerging sport for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).  Twenty-seven (including FSCJ) junior colleges outside of California have declared Beach Volleyball with 10 of those programs in Florida. "The growth of beach volleyball nationally, state-wide and locally is a great fit for FSCJ.  The current players and prospects being recruited are really interested in having the opportunity to compete in both indoor and beach", said Ginny Alexander, Director of Athletics at FSCJ.  Twelve four-year institutions in the state of Florida including JU and UNF boast beach teams opening the door for the volleyball players to play either or both types of volleyball in their future.

The FSCJ Beach Volleyball Team will play their first official game in the spring (official) season of 2021.  Beach Volleyball matches are played similar to tennis doubles where each team has 5 pairs that are ranked #1 through #5 and compete against another colleges #1 through #5, respectively.  The team who wins 3 or more of the match-ups wins the match.  Meanwhile, the indoor FSCJ will continue to compete in the fall season.

Moving forward, the college is seeking a head volleyball coach with both indoor and beach experience to lead the BlueWave teams.  Volleyball coaches interested in applying to coach both the FSCJ indoor and beach teams need to apply through the FSCJ HR departments link which can be found at:  https://jobs.fscj.edu/psp/Applicant/EMPLOYEE/HRMS_HR/c/HRS_HRAM.HRS_APP_SCHJOB.GBL?FOCUS=Applicant&FolderPath=PORTAL_ROOT_OBJECT.HC_HRS_CE_GBL2
