BlueWave pick up home win versus Daytona State

BlueWave pick up home win versus Daytona State

The FSCJ BlueWave took on the Falcons of Daytona State College this past Tuesday in a matchup of cross conference second place finishers. The outcome of this match will determine their rankings and who would face which of the other two remaining second place teams next Thursday for a chance to advance to the State Championship. Both the BlueWave and the Falcons came out a bit lethargic in the first set, trading uncharacteristic serving errors. The Falcons were the first to gain momentum and took the first set 25-22.

FSCJ developed a level of confidence as they fought the Falcons tooth and nail to take the next two sets. Down two sets to one, Daytona mounted a comeback and took the fourth set 25-18 to even the match and force a fifth and deciding set.

The BlueWave jumped out to a comfortable 6-0 lead to begin the fifth set. Appearing to get too comfortable, the Falcons steadily chipped into the lead adn got within two points. Both teams then traded points for a while until the score was tied at 12-12. FSCJ dug in and rode the blocking and attacking of Jana Cuk and Marine Angely to seal the win. FSCJ were led by Marine Angely's 16 kills performance, and 14 from Cuk. Krystal Santiago led the team on defense with 31 digs.

With the win over Daytona State the BlueWave will move on to face Indian River State on Thursday the October 24th, for a chance to get to the State Championship.

The BlueWave will return home to host the #1 team in the Nation Polk State, this Thursday at 6pm.
