Volleyball finish 2-2 in Tournament of Champions play

F.lorida State College at Jacksonville's volleyball program hosted its annual Tournament of Champions this past weekend. The tournament featured four teams from the Florida Region (Hillsborough, Eastern Florida, Florida Southwestern along with the host FSCJ) and Richard Bland College out of Virginia.

The BlueWave came away with a pair of splits in the tournament. On day one they defeated Richard Bland College 3-0, while suffering 3-1 defeat at the hands of Florida Southwestern. Day two began with a 3-0 loss to Hillsborough Community College, but the team bounced back to a 3-0 win over Eastern Florida to end the day.

Jhoana Sandoval, Marine Angely and Jana Cuk led the team offensively with 38, 34 and 33 kills respectively, while Cuk led on defense with 16 total blocks. Krystal Santiago also chipped in with 42 digs. The three setters Iveanie Galio, Leah Mortensen, and Nadia Ball-Starks shared duties in that department with 42, 37 and 32 assists.

The BlueWave, currently 5-5 in non-conference play, will have a clean slate as they head into conference opening up at home this week with two scheduled matches. On Thursday, September 19th at 6:00pm the BlueWave will host last year's Conference Champions Santa Fe College out of Gainesville, Florida. Then on Saturday, September 21st at 2 pm FSCJ will face conference opponent Pensacola State College.
