FSCJ women gain more than a win versus Beacon College

The FSCJ women's basketball team went on the road to Leesburg, Florida. Looking to tally another notch in the win column as they faced off against Beacon College for the first time this season.

Each year FSCJ looks forward to the one game more than others and it is the one versus Beacon College. The spirit of competition, sportsmanship and fellowship always prevails and serves as a learning lesson for both teams. Head coach Diana Couch developed a relationship with Athletic Director Gabe Watson, currently serving as the women's basketball coach, in her first year at FSCJ. The two forged an agreement to play each season in benefit of both teams.

"Playing Beacon College is one of the highlights of our season", said head coach Diana Couch. "The determination, perseverance and pure love of the game watching Beacon's team play, is a shining example of what this game means and our team learns so much from sharing the court with them."

The first quarter found Beacon working to find their rhythm, as FSCJ outscored Beacon 40-16 in the first quarter. Settling back, both teams struggled in the second quarter with a dismal 4-6 performance in favor of Beacon College. Halftime, up 44-22, FSCJ reviewed the game plan and came back out of the half ready to play.

"It was a great experience playing tonight," said freshman guard Jyla Gunsby. "Everyone was just having fun and showing their love for the game of basketball." Gunsby was part of the second half rotation that helped FSCJ regain the flow and took over the third quarter 26-10. With the victory in sight, FSCJ's bench continued to play significant minutes adding a 30-20 final quarter score.

FSCJ's Tanaujeah Brown showcased her scoring ability, delivering a solid performance with an impressive 22 points. Brown's shooting ability proved crucial for FSCJ as they look to turn a corner on the season.

Kyra Frazine emerged as a force to be reckoned with, displaying a remarkable all-around game. Her stat lines were filled, contributing 12 points, securing a staggering 20 rebounds and dishing out 6 assists. Frazine's versatility on both ends of the court was instrumental to her teammates success.

Sophomore post player, Kaela Vincent earned herself a double-double with a career-high 12 points and 12 rebounds. Travonda Jackson's came close to achieving a triple-double, contributing 11 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Alexia Taliferro added her scoring touch to the mix, tallying up an impressive 13 points and Janay Demmitt made her presence felt on the scoreboard with a solid double-digit contribution of 10 points.

FSCJ shot an impressive 67% from the field and had a total of 28 assists to end the game 100-52 in FSCJ's favor.
