Led behind Tanaujeah Brown’s 29-point scoring effort, FSCJ picks up win against USC- Salkehatchie

USC- Salkehatchie traveled from South Carolina to face FSCJ for a second time this season. The first match- up found FSCJ with a dismal 28% shooting percentage that led to them falling 56-44 to the USC-Salkehatchie.

Tonight's match-up will find assistant coach Jessica Eaton in the coach's box, as head coach Diana Couch is out battling COVID. This will be Coach Eaton's third appearance in three years on the sideline at the helm of the FSCJ women's basketball team.

Energized to redeem themselves from the last match-up, the FSCJ women took control from the tip as they notched the first points of the game off a steal from freshman Tanaujeah Brown to teammate Janay Demmitt for the lay in. Not happy with the opening minutes, USC-Salkehatchie would call the first time out of the game to regroup. Able to convert for a few more buckets, FSCJ's defense was able to maintain a 17-8 lead behind the scoring of Brown as the first quarter ended.

Going on a scoring drought only managing to hit one bucket in the first four minutes of play FSCJ struggled to find their groove. Another defensive surge and weakside steals led by Brown propelled FSCJ to another 16-6 quarter, expanding the lead to 33-14 at the half.

The third quarter proved to be another slow start for FSCJ as warmed up to the game. The teams defense stifled USC- Salkehatchie's ability to get into an offense flow and FSCJ would go on to win the quarter 20-6.

The final quarter of the game found FSCJ's bench playing significant minutes and USC-Salkehatchie took advantage attacking the lane and converting. FSCJ continued the offensive attacks and managed to pull out the fourth and final quarter 19-14.

The second match-up between teams found FSCJ the victor after 40 minutes of play with a final score of 72-34.

The team was led in scoring behind freshman guard Tanaujeah Brown with career high 29 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals and 8 assists. Fellow freshman Janay Demmitt contributed 15 points, 6 rebounds, Kyra Frazine had another double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Travonda Jackson dropped in with 8 points and a career high 10 rebounds.
