Women's basketball joins Salvation Army's Angel Tree event

After several other FSCJ athletic teams volunteered at the Northeast Salvation Army of Jacksonville's Angel tree event, the women's basketball team didn't want to miss out.

While other teams were able to help with the set-up, moving and packing of Christmas gifts and bundles, the women's team followed up after Thursday's main event. The Salvation Army helped to provide over 1,900 Christmas gifts to children in Jacksonville area on Thursday at the Regency Square Mall. The gifts were for families who are dealing with financial hardships and are struggling to provide presents for their children, hundreds of boxes were filled with gifts from the community.

"Working the Salvation Army Angel Tree project was an eye opener for me." said freshman guard Jyla Gunbsy. "It made me realize how important it is to help others, especially around the holidays. You never know other people's circumstances and it was nice helping to pack up toys with my teammates for the children of our community."

With last minute drop off of gifts after the event, the team helped to finalize the wrap up of the Angel Tree program. They organized remaining items, moved and cleaned up the distribution area and assisted with the breakdown.
