Women fall to St. Pete 70-47 in first meeting of conference play

Game two versus St. Petersburg College in conference play didn't fair well for the Florida State College at Jacksonville women's basketball team.

Winning the jump ball to start the game the BlueWave produced a turnover allowing the Titans to convert for the first points of the quarter. The Titans continued with control of the game until Avery Cannon hit a three to put the BlueWave on the board. Sophomore Ameera Thomas followed up with a steal going full court for a lay-up to draw the foul; she converts the free-throw for a three-point play. With the BlueWave unable to stop the Titans on the inside, the first quarter ends with a score of 22-12 in favor of the St. Pete.

M'Kayla Patterson notched two points on the board for FSCJ to start the second quarter. Fired up, FSCJ puts a stop to the Titans offense allowing the BlueWave opportunities to close the gap. A drive from freshman Jaiden Ross resulted in a miss but she gets the offensive board to cut the Titans' lead to 6 points. Answering back with continued points in the painld maintain the 10-point lead going into the half, 36-26.

With the Titans having the ball coming out of halftime, FSCJ stepped their defense. A steal by Kahliya Gaitor ended with a block, but the BlueWave get control of the ball and take advantage with a bucket from Jaiden Ross. St. Pete immediately answers with a long two from the corner to get the lead back to 10 points. A baseline drive from Jaiden Ross draws a foul on the make giving her a three point play opportunity. Now back within eight, the Titans would go on a 16-4 run in the last five minutes finishing the third quarter 54-34.

FSCJ's Ameera Thomas grabs an early offensive board and gets fouled in the process. Hitting both free throws, FSCJ starts the battle back from a 20 point deficit. Another offensive put-back and a three-pointer by FSCJ, ignited the Titans to extend the lead. Unable to recover, the BlueWave would fall to St. Petersburg 70-47.

Freshman Avery Cannon led with 15 points, going 5-10 from behind the arc. Teammate Jaiden Ross would contribute 10.
