Softball takes two from Lake-Sumter State College in a three-game series

Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) softball played Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) in a three-game series last Thursday. Lake-Sumter won game 1 in Leesburg, FL on Thursday and FSCJ won the two remaining games at home on Sunday in Jacksonville.

FSCJ 6, Lake-Sumter 9

FSCJ scored three runs in the first inning with a lead-off walk by Hannah Steedley which then brought Brooke Baker to the plate. Baker laid down a sac bunt to move Hannah into scoring position, Sydney Davis would then hit a single to give FSCJ their first run. Lake Sumter came to the plate in the bottom of the first inning to score two with a lead-off single by Bourghattzer then Ellis drew a walk to bring the number four hitter Adams to the plate who hit a double to score two runs. Headed into the 5th inning with LSSC leading the game 6 - 5, both teams played aggressive defense to keep the game close. Going into the top of the 7th inning down by 3, FSCJ would come up short and lose the game. 

 

FSCJ 8, Lake-Sumter 7

Lake-Sumter started the 1st inning scoring three runs against FSCJ with two outs. FSCJ would answer back with one run in the bottom of the 1st inning. Headed into the bottom of the 2nd inning FSCJ scored five more runs off LSSC defensive errors. With two on base, Ciara Byrd stepped up to the plate and hit a three run homer to solidify the 6-3 win in game two of the three game series. FSCJ's Ashlee Thomas was on the pitcher's mound to get the win with Abby Rutledge coming in to get the save.  

 

FSCJ 6, Lake-Sumter 2 

Lake-Sumter scored first in the 2nd inning. LSSC's defense and pitching went three up and three down against FSCJ holding them to no runs through three innings. FSCJ would put up one run in the 4th inning before Lake-Sumter's 7th batter hit a single homerun in the 4th inning to take the lead, 2-1. The BlueWave would add two more runs in the 5th and three in the 6th to bring the final score to FSCJ 6, Lake-Sumter 2.
