FSCJ softball pairs up with Field of Dreams under the Friday night lights

The Florida State College at Jacksonville softball team partnered with Field of Dreams (FOD) last friday night.

FSCJ softball took to the field at Aberdeen Park located in St. John's county where the Field of Dreams holds games. Members of FSCJ softball team partnered up with a buddy from two different teams to help them play the game of baseball. They assisted their buddy with running, fielding and hitting.

"Helping these players play a game they love was extremely rewarding for our athletes." said first year head softball coach Sabrina Hartsell. "Watching them assist their buddies with simple tasks on the baseball field was something the softball players did not take for granted. As a coach I am extremely humbled by my athletes showing compassion, empathy, strength, and pure joy of helping a child in need."

The Field of Dreams baseball league is a voluntary organization that provides a safe ADA certified facility where special needs children of all ages can play baseball. The league enables children with special needs, whether mental or physical disabilities, with the opportunity to play baseball in an organized league. Participants are provided a uniform, have their names announced and participate in the singing of the National Anthem before each game.
