BlueWave softball picks up two wins at home opener

On Saturday the BlueWave softball team opened their home schedule hosting Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College (ABAC).

In game one the BlueWave wasted not time getting on the board in the bottom of the second inning scoring the first two runs. The second inning found FSCJ crossing the plate another four times to bring the score to 6-0 over ABAC. It wasn't until the fourth inning that ABAC would score a run and that filtered into the fifth when they registered another on the board. With the score 6-2 in the sixth, the BlueWave would pick up three more runs with singles from Bhealor Young and Tristan Edwards. Joely Leguizamon hit a double scoring Young and Emily Cononie hit a ground ball scoring Edwards. Rounding out the inning Sydney Hayworth would pick up an RBI by scoring Joely Leguizamon. The seventh inning was a thriller as ABAC picked up four hits, including a three-run shot making the score 9-8 before the BlueWave finally shut them down for the win.

Florida State College at Jacksonville put together 16 hits which included 3 home runs by Macy Mizell, Tori Richardson and Tristan Edwards. Also collecting hits for FSCJ were Breanna Swanson, Joely Leguizamon and Sidney Richardson. 

In game two, the first inning was silent for both teams. It wasn't until ABAC put a run on the board in the top the second inning that the BlueWave would come up big with 6 runs in the bottom of the inning. Joely Leguizamon started it off with a double and Emily Cononie bunt moved Leguizamon to third base. Payton Mahon hit a double scoring Leguizamon. Macey Mizell picked up an RBI by scoring Cononie and Sara Keves hit her first career homerun. ABAC would score three runs in the third inning closing the gap and FSCJ answered with one more run bringing the score to 7-4. ABAC was not done competing as they silenced the BlueWave in the fourth and fifth innings adding another five runs to their side of the board. With score now flipped 9-7 in ABAC's favor, FSCJ would get to work and score three more runs to close the game in the sixth inning with a game winning double by Amber Reed. The FSCJ BlueWave sweep visiting ABAC with a 10-9 second game win.

Sara Keves had the solo homerun for the BlueWave, while Breanna Swanson, Joely Leguizamon, Macy Mizell (2), Amber Reed had doubles. Cassidi Beaver, Sara Keves (3), Breanna Swanson, Payton Mahon, Macy Mizell (2), Tori Richardson and Amber Reed all collected RBI's.
