FSCJ Men Win Florida Gateway XC Invitational

Friday morning the men and women's cross country teams raced against Region 8 rivals Florida Gateway College, College of Central Florida, Seminole State College, Tallahassee Community and NCAA DII Valdosta State at the Florida Gateway XC Invitational.

It was 78 degrees at the start, very humid and steady rains on Wednesday and Thursday making it a muddy and challenging 5,000m.

Sophomore Kaleigh McWatters personal record (PR) performance led the women's team to a solid 4th place finish, 23 points ahead of nationally ranked College of Central Florida. Kayleigh's time of 21:26 moved her up into 7th place on the Top 10 list.

The men's team was led this week by Ashton Curl's 2nd place finish. The FSCJ men went 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th to dominate the meet with 21 points.

"We had a couple of PR's and season best times today. Kayleigh moved up the Top 10 for the second race in a row, and the men's team had a 47 second pack time. We saw a very solid race performances on a hot, humid and muddy course," commented Coach Jody Hale
