Bio

Toriano Andrews was hired as the first assistant coach for Head Coach John Putyrski and is entering his second season helping lead the Florida State College at Jacksonville men's basketball team. With Coach Andrews' experience and leadership, the team experienced unprecedented levels of success in year one by tying the most wins in school history (26)—more than the previous four seasons combined—and advancing to its first ever national tournament.

At the 2024 National Tournament, FSCJ upset No. 15th nationally ranked Howard Community College in the first round before falling to the No. 2nd nationally ranked—and eventual national runner-up—South Suburban College in the Sweet Sixteen.

FSCJ earned an auto-bid to the national tournament after defeating Snead State Community College 72-69 to win the Gulf South District Championship in Bay Minette, Alabama on March 9th. FSCJ advanced to the district finals after winning the Region 8 Tournament Championship when they defeated defending champion Florida Gateway College 70-60 on March 2nd in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. FSCJ secured the region’s No. 1-overall seed and were named Region 8 regular season champions after its 73-49 rout of Palm Beach State College on February 21st’s Sophomore Night in Jacksonville. It was the first time in school history that FSCJ had won either the Region 8 regular season or Region 8 tournament championship.

Excelling in player development, Andrews helped lead the on-court development of NJCAA 1st Team All-American and Region VIII Player of the Year Tarence Guinyard, Region VIII All-Conference Alex McCray, and Region VIII All-Tournament Team Aiden Fletcher and Jordan Smith.

Originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia, Andrews came to FSCJ with extensive experience in the basketball industry, coaching both men and women professionally at the international level. He served as the head coach for Foshan Nanhai University in Guangdong, China for the 2018-19 season.

Prior to Foshan Nanhai, Andrews served as the head skills development coach for the Shanxi XingRui Flames of the WCBA. There he was responsible for providing mentorship and training to players, both on and off the court. He excelled in creating and implementing specialized programs that enhanced player performance and contributed to their overall growth and development. Additionally, he demonstrated his expertise in strength and conditioning, ensuring athletes reached peak physical condition for optimum skill development under his tutelage.

Prior to the XingRui Flames, Andrews spent time as the head coach of Kaiyang Pro Basketball Club, where he served dually as the head skills development coach. This dual role allowed him to provide comprehensive mentorship and support to athletes in empowering them to maximize their potential.

Andrews spent time as a consultant for CBA Northeast Jilin Tigers, acting as the team liaison for foreign aid player development. There he provided specialized services for foreign players on and off the court to ensure they received necessary guidance and support in their professional careers while playing in a foreign country. He played professionally from 1998-2010 with stops in Turkey, Spain, and across southeast Asia.

Andrews attended Virginia Union University in 1996-97. He resides in Middleburg, Florida with his wife Kasiah and has four children: Amari, Toriano Jr., Jordun and Skylor.
