Men Climb 2 Spots To Move Into Nation's Top 10
The second official national poll of the NJCAA's basketball regular season was released Monday afternoon. The FSCJ Men's Basketball Team (7-0) moved up two spots after their 3-0 week to crack the top 10 and are now ranked as the #9 team in the country.
After being ranked #22 in the preseason poll on October 23rd, the FSCJ Men's Basketball Team moved up 11 spots last week to claim the #11 ranking before now moving up to #9. They hosted The FSCJ Classic this past weekend, where they swept their competition of NJCAA Division-II opponents.
On Thursday evening, the men defeated #17-ranked Chandler-Gilbert Community College out of Chandler, Arizona 67-55 before going onto defeat a pair of Region 22 teams beginning with Marion Military Institute 95-71 on Saturday and Snead State Community College 92-71 on Sunday. The full recap of the weekend's classic and games can be viewed here.
The preseason ranking at #22 was the first time in FSCJ school history that the men's basketball team had been officially ranked as a top team in the country. The climb to #9 now marks the new highest ranking FSCJ Men's Basketball has achieved.
"We're focused on each day and ready for this week's opponents," said sophomore guard Alex McCray. "We're playing well but also know there's a lot of room for improvement so long as we stay together and keep that chip on our shoulder."
The men's basketball team is in the middle of their 7-game homestand that continues when they host the Santa Fe College Saints Wednesday evening at 6pm. The two teams split last year's home-and-home series each protecting their home court. After Santa Fe, the St. Petersburg College Titans come to Jacksonville for a Saturday 4pm tip-off to conclude the week of competition for the FSCJ men.
