FSCJ wins big against Edward Waters University JV

Florida State College at Jacksonville baseball (2-4) welcomed Edward Waters University JV for their first inter-city matchup of the season. FSCJ pulled away for the win in a game that saw the team collect 11 hits and walk 10 times. 

FSCJ set the tone for the season in their first midweek game of the spring, winning 15-1 against the visitors from Downtown Jacksonville. FSCJ started the scoring off with 2 runs in the 2nd inning and never relinquished the lead from there. Scoring 2 more runs in the 3rd and 5th before exploding for a 9-spot in the 6th to bring their total to 15. Ashton Nugent led the Wave with a 3 for 4 day at the plate, including a walk, a double, three runs scored, and three RBI. Alex Monile also contributed a multi-hit game. Nugent, Monile, Brooks Hicken, Billy Girgis, and Isaac Newman all scored multiple times. Gant Geiger (1-0) set the tone on the mound in his 1st career start, garnering the win by throwing three shutout innings, allowing no runs on one hit, one walk, and three strikeouts. Brady Ellison (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K), Ethan Wilford (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K), Ethan Yesensky (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K), and Noah Wood (1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K) all threw masterfully in relief of Geiger.

What's Next?

FSCJ will travel to Daytona Beach for a weekend split-series with Daytona State College, with Game 1 being at 1:00 PM on Friday (2/9) in Daytona Beach, and Game 2 being at 12:00 on Saturday (2/10) in Jacksonville.
