BlueWave strikes out 17 in win vs Ed Waters

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - FSCJ hosted Ed Waters JV in the third of four meetings between the two Jacksonville schools in 2023. The final meeting will take place in two weeks at J.P. Small Memorial Stadium. This round went the way of the BlueWave 6-0 on the backs of 17 strikeouts by the FSCJ pitching staff.

FSCJ struck for five runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back en route to a 6-0 victory on Monday afternoon. The scoring got started with a Matt Retamoza sacrifice fly, followed by a Josh Green RBI single, two passed balls, and a Dylan Greene RBI single. The other BlueWave run would come in the fifth inning on a Carson Womer sacrifice fly. Mac Wilkins would contribute two hits, and Womer, Jack Gidcumb, and Kobe Wiggins would also hit safely. Andrew Veniard (2-3) got the win on the mound going 5 innings, allowing 0 runs on 3 hits, 2 walks, and 9 strikeouts. Ethan Wilford (2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K), Alex Hurwitz (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K), and Roman Smith (1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, 2 K) were great out of the bullpen as well.

What's Next?

FSCJ will host St. Johns River in a SunLakes Conference doubleheader on Friday at 1:00 PM at Howard Roey Field before travelling to Palatka to battle with SJR again on Saturday at 1:00 PM to complete the three game series.
