BlueWave takes 2 of 3 from Lake-Sumter

FSCJ started the second half of SunLakes Conference play this weekend against Lake-Sumter State College. The split series was held on Friday in Leesburg and Saturday in Jacksonville. FSCJ would take two of three to make it four wins in six tries vs LS this season.

FSCJ 7, Lake-Sumter 4

LEESBURG, FLA. - After the Lakehawks put up four runs in the bottom of the 1st, FSCJ was able to put up eight consecutive zeroes on the board and mount the comeback. The game was cut to 4-2 in the 2nd after a Jack Gidcumb RBI groundout and a Connor Nelson RBI single. Mac Wilkins provided a sacrifice fly in the 5th to make it 4-3. Matt Retamoza hit his second home run of the year to tie the game 4-4 in the 6th before Nelson added another RBI single to take the lead 5-4 just a few batters later. A balk and a groundout scored the final two runs for the Wave in the 7th, where the score would hold 7-4. Colby Lipovsky (1-6) earned the win, with 5 innings pitched, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Jayden Long (1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K), Tristin Bohler (1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K), Dylan Cope (0.2 IP, 0 R), and Connor Nelson (IP, 0 R, 1 BB, SV) would provide the bullpen support. FSCJ 4, Lake-Sumter 3

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - FSCJ would take the series after a Game 2 win in Jacksonville. Lake-Sumter would again score in the 1st to take an early 1-0 lead, while FSCJ would continue answering the call and scored two of their own to take a 2-1 lead after one inning on a Carson Womer RBI double and Matt Retamoza RBI single. The game would be tied in the 2nd. FSCJ retook the lead 3-2 on a Connor Nelson RBI single in the 4th and would add to it with a Noah Wood pinch-hit sacrifice fly in the 6th to take the score to 4-2. A collision in the outfield led to an inside the park home run for LS in the 7th, bringing the game to a 4-3 score. Brady Ellison (3-2) earned the win for FSCJ, throwing 6.1 innings, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 7 hits, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts. Lake-Sumter would avoid the sweep with a Game 3 win. After trading zeroes early, the Lakehawks struck first in the 3rd with a two-run home run. The lead would be extended to 3-0 in the 6th.
