FSCJ takes one down in Palm Beach

LAKE WORTH, FLA. - FSCJ took the long ride down I-95 to tango with Palm Beach State College this weekend in a SunLakes Conference matchup. The games were moved up one day each after rain was forecasted for Saturday. Game 1 was held on Thursday with Games 2 and 3 on Friday. FSCJ won the middle game of the series, while PBSC took the first and third games.

Palm Beach 9, FSCJ 1

FSCJ took an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning of the opening game on a hard hit groundball by Jack Gidcumb that scored Blake Wood. Palm Beach scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 3rd and never looked back. The Panthers tacked on 1 in the 6th and 3 in the 7th to end the game. Noah Wood and Blake Wood had doubles. Josh Green and Dylan Greene also recorded hits. Jayden Long (2-4) took the loss on the mound, throwing 2.2 innings, allowing 5 runs on 4 hits and 1 walk. Dylan Dudones threw the final 4 innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits, 5 walks, and 2 strikeouts.

FSCJ 2, Palm Beach 1

For the second week in a row, FSCJ freshman lefty Brady Ellison (2-1) was magnficent on the mound, going all 7 innings for the complete game win. He allowed just 1 run on 5 hits, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts. After a 1-0 deficit in the 3rd inning, the Blue Wave scored both of their runs in the 6th inning on RBI singles by Josh Green and Matt Retamoza. Blake Wood and JC Medina also hit safely. 

Palm Beach 8, FSCJ 3

In the rubber match of the series, early zeroes turned into a back and forth affair. PBSC took a 3-0 lead after the 4th before FSCJ tied the game 3-3 in the 6th on a Kobe Wiggins RBI groundball, Carson Womer RBI single, and Xavier Cintron RBI single. Palm Beach answered with 1 in the 6th, 1 in the 7th, and 3 in the 8th to pull away 8-3. Cintron had a multi-hit game. JC Medina and Matt Retamoza had doubles. Colby Lipovsky (0-5) took the loss for FSCJ, throwing 6.1 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts. Connor Nelson (0.2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 K), Bryce Kemper (3 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K), and Ethan Wilford (0.1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 K) all threw in relief. 

What's Next?

The Blue Wave will have the midweek off before hosting South Florida State College for a three game SunLakes Conference series next Friday and Saturday.
