Santa Fe downs FSCJ

Santa Fe downs FSCJ

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - Two big innings led to a loss for FSCJ against Santa Fe on Monday afternoon at Howard Roey Field. A big seven-run fourth inning and a five-run ninth inning were too much to handle as the final score fell to 14-2.

Santa Fe 14, FSCJ 2

A low scoring game early was broken open in the middle innings for the Saints to pull away. Blue Wave starting pitcher Tristin Bohler threw well, going the first 3 innings and only allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 1 hit, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts. After SF took an 8-0 lead after the top of the fourth, FSCJ was able to respond with its only two runs of the game as a Jack Gidcumb RBI doubled scored Xavier Cintron, who led off the inning with a single, and then Matt Retamoza singled to score Gidcumb. That 8-2 score would hold until the seventh, when Santa Fe tacked on one more to make it 9-2, and then scored five in the ninth for the final 14-2 score. Retamoza had a three-hit game, while Gidcumb had two hits (both doubles). Bryce Kemper (0-2) took the loss for FSCJ, allowing 7 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits, 4 walks, and 1 strikeout in 0.2 innings. Ethan Wilford threw 2.2 innings, only allowing 1 run. Jacob Ward provided 1.2 scoreless innings. Alex Hurwitz and Roman Smith also saw action on the mound.
