South Georgia sweeps two from FSCJ

DOUGLAS, GA. - FSCJ traveled into the Peach State for the first time this season to battle with South Georgia State College for the second week in a row. SGSC swept the doubleheader from FSCJ, winning 4-2 and 6-4.

South GA 4, FSCJ 2

After drawing an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a Xavier Cintron sacrifice fly, the first inning reared its ugly head again for the Blue Wave, allowing two runs to give South Georgia a 2-1 advantage. FSCJ would tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the third inning with Blake Wood using an RBI fielder's choice to score Kobe Wiggins, who led off the inning with a double. A mixture of walks and errors culminated in the Hawks scoring twice more in the bottom of the fifth to take the final lead of the game at 4-2. Josh Green also provided a double at the plate. Dylan Dudones started for FSCJ, going 3 innings, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits while walking 1 and striking out 1. Dylan Cope (0-1) took the loss in relief, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, striking out 2 and walking 1 in 1.2 innings. Roman Smith pitched the final 1.1 innings scoreless, striking out one.

South GA 6, FSCJ 4

Another close game came down to the wire on Tuesday afternoon in Douglas. An early pitchers dual turned into some crooked numbers late. South Georgia took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after an errant pickoff throw was cashed in. That score would hold until the top of the fifth inning, when the Blue Wave put up four runs via RBI singles from Jack Gidcumb, Connor Nelson, and Kobe Wiggins, and a bases loaded walk to Dylan Greene. This 4-1 lead for the visitors from Jacksonville would hold until the bottom of the sixth, when SGSC put up five runs of their own on a collection of free passes to win the game 6-4. Josh Green had his first career three-hit game. Gidcumb, Wiggins, and Mac Wilkins had multi-hit games as well. Jayden Long started on the mound, going 2 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts. Andrew Veniard and Noah Wood combined for three scoreless innings of relief. Ethan Wilford (0-2) took the loss for FSCJ, letting up 4 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks. Bryce Kemper (1 R, 2 BB) and Brady Ellison (1 BB, 1K) also saw action on the mound to finish the game.
