Daytona takes weekend series from FSCJ

FSCJ battled Daytona State in a split-series matchup this past weekend for the second time this season. The Falcons took both games from FSCJ, winning 12-2 in Daytona on Friday and 7-3 on Saturday in Jacksonville. The losses take the FSCJ record to 3-8 on the year.

Daytona 12, FSCJ 2

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. - FSCJ took to the road first in the series, heading south to Daytona on Friday. Daytona would score three in the first off of FSCJ starter Andrew Veniard, before Colby Lipovsky came in to a big jam and got out of it. DSC would tack on another run in the second, taking a 4-0 lead. That score would hold until the sixth inning, when FSCJ would break through for two runs on a Carson Womer two-RBI single, scoring Josh Green and Kobe Wiggins. The 4-2 score would not last long, as Daytona powered through in the bottom of the sixth for eight runs to finish the game via run rule and win 12-2. Noah Wood and Xavier Cintron had multi-hit games. Veniard (0-1) took the loss for the Blue Wave, allowing three runs in 0.2 innings. Lipovsky provided some length out of the pen, going 4.1 innings and allowing only one run on five hits, one walk, and six strikeouts. Dylan Cope and Jacob Ward combined for the final inning. 

Daytona 7, FSCJ 3

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - The series would return to Jacksonville on Saturday for the final matchup between the two schools in 2023. Daytona took the early lead once again with three runs in the second inning. FSCJ answered for three runs of their own in the fifth inning to tie the game at 3-3. Xavier Cintron got the scoring started with an RBI single, and Josh Green provided a bases-loaded RBI hit-by-pitch. Noah Wood rounded out the scoring in the inning with an RBI groundout. DSC scored two in the seventh and two in the eighth to put the game in hand. Blake Wood provided a multi-hit game. Jaden Paradoa made his season debut for the Blue Wave, starting on the mound and going three innings, allowing three runs on five hits, two walks, and four strikeouts. Brady Ellison was phenomenal in relief, throwing three scoreless innings, only allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out seven. Ellison got out of a major jam in the sixth, striking out three in a row after Daytona led off the inning with back to back hits to have runners at first and third. Ethan Wilford (0-1) took the loss for FSCJ, going 1.1 innings, allwoing four runs on five hits, one walk, and two strikeouts. Bryce Kemper threw the final 1.2 innings scoreless.

FSCJ will start a busy, five-game week with a doubleheader on the road in Douglas, Georgia, against South Georgia State College on Tuesday (February 21) at 2:00 PM.
