BlueWave fall to late Eastern Florida rally

BlueWave fall to late Eastern Florida rally

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - A late rally from the visitors of Eastern Florida State College in the top of the 9th inning led to a crushing defeat for FSCJ by a score of 8-7 on a sunny Thursday afternoon at Howard Roey Field. This was the lone game between the Titans and the Blue Wave this season. The loss would take the Blue Wave record to 2-2 on the young season.

Eastern Florida 8, FSCJ 7

A back and forth game that saw three lead changes and some late drama was on display in North Jax for a Thursday matinee. FSCJ would strike early for three runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, scoring on a Xavier Cintron two-run home run and and a Carson Womer RBI single. The 3-0 lead would hold until the top of the 5th inning when EFSC struck for four runs of their own on a combination of singles, walks, and errors. The 4-3 lead for Eastern would be answered in the bottom half of the 5th on a Cintron RBI single and Blake Wood's first collegiate home run, a two-run shot to left. Another run for the home team would come in the bottom of the 6th when Connor Nelson contributed a sacrifice fly to score Womer, who tripled to lead off the inning. A single Titan run would score in the 7th to set up the 9th inning score of 7-5 FSCJ. After a leadoff pop up, a double and a game-tying home run put the game back in even balance. After a fly out, EFSC would hit another home run to post a three-run top of the 9th and take an 8-7 lead and close out the game.

Dylan Dudones started on the mound for FSCJ, cruising through the first four innings before running out of gas in the 5th, ultimately allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits, one walk, and one strikeout. Brady Ellison would finish the 5th before Andrew Veniard put the game back into Blue Wave control, throwing three innings and only allowing one run on two hits, one walk, and three strikeouts. Tristin Bohler (0-1) took the loss for FSCJ, going 0.2 innings and allowing three runs on three hits in the 9th. Bryce Kemper tallied the final out on the mound.
