BlueWave take down Edward Waters in an intra-city matchup
JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - In the first of four intra-city matchups with Edward Waters University JV, FSCJ (2-1) took home the 14-4 win in a run-rule shortened 6-inning affair. An offensive onslaught that produced a total of 14 hits to go along with the 14 runs, scoring at least one run in every inning. Each member of the Blue Wave starting 9 reached base safely.
EWU took the lead 1-0 on an unearned run in the top of the 1st inning, but FSCJ would respond with two runs in the bottom of the 1st to take the lead for the remainder of the afternoon. A Matt Retamoza RBI single coupled with a score on a wild pitch produced the first two runs for the home team. Florida State College tacked on three more in the 2nd, on an RBI double by Xavier Cintron and an RBI single apiece by Jack Gidcumb and Blake Wood. The 6th and 7th runs for FSCJ would come in the 3rd inning on another Cintron RBI double. Two more runs came in the 4th inning on a Retamoza RBI triple and a Dylan Greene sacrifice fly. A Gidcumb sacrifice fly would make the score 10-1 FSCJ before Edward Waters answered with three of their own in the top of the 6th to make it 10-4. The final four runs came in the bottom of the 6th inning courtesy of a wild pitch, a Gidcumb RBI groundout and a Dylan Cope two-RBI walk-off single to finish the game at 14-4. Cope, Sam Gordon, and Mac Wilkins all recorded their first collegiate hits. Cintron and Retamoza finished the day with three hits each, while Gordon and Gidcumb also had multi-hit games. Connor Nelson scored three runs on an 0/0 game with four walks. Jayden Long (1-0) made his first college appearance as the starting pitcher today, earning the win by going three shutout innings, allowing zero earned runs, and striking out four batters while walking none. Ethan Wilford (1 IP, 0 R, K), Tristin Bohler (1 IP, 0 R, 2 K), and Roman Smith (1 IP, 3 R, 2 K) also made their debuts on the mound to finish out the game.

FSCJ will play host to Eastern Florida State College tomorrow (Thursday, Feb. 2) at 2:00 PM at Howard Roey Field on FSCJ's North Campus. Admission is free and the game will be streamed live on GameChanger.
