Seminole State Downs FSCJ 9-5

SANFORD, FLA. - Seminole State used a five-run fifth inning to pull away from an early back and forth affair against FSCJ on Wednesday afternoon and take the ballgame 9-5. That loss takes the Blue Wave's record to 8-7 on the season.

In a game that saw five lead changes early, the five spot in the fifth loomed large for the homestanding Raiders of SSC. Seminole struck first in the bottom of the first with a solo home run before FSCJ answered with two of their own in the top of the second with RBI singles from Jack Gidcumb and Garrett Chun. Seminole tacked on a second solo home run in the bottom of the second inning to tie the ballgame at two apiece. In the bottom of the third inning, SSC hit a third solo home run to take a 3-2 lead until the Wave answered back with another Gidcumb RBI single to tie the game at three all. After Seminole took the 8-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth, Evan Wickeri responded with a solo home run of his own, his fourth of the season, to cut the deficit to 8-4. The eighth inning would see each team scrap a run, with FSCJ's coming courtesy of a Cam Wademan RBI, leading to the 9-5 final. Dylan Dudones took the loss for FSCJ on the mound (0-1), throwing 4.1 innings and allowing 6 runs. Blake Wood was impressive in his first appearance on the mound for the Wave, throwing 2.1 scoreless innings of relief. Gidcumb led the way at the plate with a 3/3 game and 2 RBI. Wickeri and Chun added multi-hit games.

FSCJ will continue the five-game week on Friday at 12:00 PM by hosting South Florida State College at Howard Roey Field. USC-Sumter will then come to town for a 12:00 PM doubleheader on Saturday in the last weekend matchup before conference play starts next weekend.
