FSCJ Takes Down CF 7-3

FSCJ Takes Down CF 7-3

OCALA, FLA. - Florida State College at Jacksonville took the short drive south to take on the College of Central Florida on Tuesday afternoon in a midweek contest, coming away with a 7-3 victory while out-hitting the Patriots 14-9. The win brings the Blue Wave to an 8-6 record, matching last year's season win total. The boys in blue look to continue the momentum with four more games this week in the last week of non-conference play.

A first inning that saw both teams score two runs led to a back and forth in the early going. CF was able to take a brief 3-2 lead on a solo home run to left in the bottom of the 3rd inning, but FSCJ scored five in the top of the 4th to take the 7-3 lead that would hold for the rest of the game. Freshman LHP Andrew Myers collected his first start of the season and went five innings, giving up three runs and striking out three, and taking his season record to 3-0. JD Garner provided a scoreless inning of relief with three strikeouts before Patrick Groark worked through some big jams to close the game with a season-high three scoreless innings to earn his third save of the season. At the plate, third-year players Cam Wademan and Evan Wickeri did the damage for the Wave. Wademan went 3/5 with a double, triple, and two RBI while Wickeri went 2/5 with a double, triple, two runs scored and three RBI. Garrett Chun, Blake Wood, and Xavier Cintron added multi-hit games, as well.

FSCJ will hit the road south again on Wednesday afternoon to take on Seminole State College in Sanford with first pitch at 2:00 PM.
