BlueWave Splits Doubleheader with South Georgia State College

DOUGLAS, GA. - FSCJ Baseball traveled north on Saturday afternoon to face off with South Georgia State College in a non-conference doubleheader. The Wave split the doubleheader, winning the first and dropping the second, to take their record to 6-5 on the young season.

Game One

FSCJ landed a four spot in the top of the 2nd inning and never looked back en route to a 6-3 win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. Brian Veniard continued to have the hot hand on the mound, moving to 3-0 on the season by going 5.2 innings and limiting the Hawks to one run. Patrick Groark came into a big jam in the bottom of the 6th but got the out and closed out the 7th inning with zero earned runs for his second save of the year. Hunter Bradshaw led the Wave with three hits, while Blake Wood and Evan Wickeri added two RBI apiece. Barry Eiseman provided two hits of his own.

Game Two

The Blue Wave dropped the second game by a score of 4-3. South Georgia was able to come out on top in walk-off fashion after a bases loaded passed ball in the bottom of the 7th inning. FSCJ took a 2-0 lead after the top of the 4th but a solo home run and a two-run double for the Hawks led them to a 3-2 lead going into the last inning of play. A leadoff walk to Tyler Green turned into a game-tying sacrifice fly by his brother Josh Green, but South Georgia capitalized on a leadoff double and free passes to put the game away. Daniel Gaviria started for FSCJ, going five innings and allowing three runs. Manny Reyes was the pitcher of record for the Wave. Barry Eiseman led the charge at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a long double high off of the centerfield wall.

What's Next?

FSCJ will travel to Tifton, Georgia, to take on Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) on Wednesday for a 9-inning midweek matchup at 3:00 PM.
