FSCJ Takes 2 of 3 from St. Pete

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - The Florida State College at Jacksonville Blue Wave rode the wave of a hot-hitting lineup en route to winning their first weekend series of the year, taking two out of three games from St. Petersburg College. It was truly a team effort at the plate, as 11 different players recorded a hit over the weekend and a whopping 13 different players reached base. On the mound, the Wave bounced back well from Tuesday's loss, holding St. Pete to 13 earned runs over three games. 5 different players made their FSCJ debut over the weekend.

Game One

St. Petersburg College was able to take a 5-0 lead and never looked back after capitalizing on a 3-run double in the 3rd inning to take a 7-2 win over the Blue Wave in the first game of the series. Daniel Gaviria took the loss on the mound for FSCJ, going 4 innings and allowing 5 runs. Multi-hit games from Barry Eiseman and Tyler Green kept the Wave within striking distance, along with 2 RBI from JC Medina, but the FSCJ offense could never push the big hit through.

Game Two

FSCJ was able to draw even in the second game of Friday's doubleheader and earn a split for the day. A combination of an offensive outburst and a quality start on the mound from Brian Veniard gave the Wave a 7-3 win. Cam Wademan and Garrett Chun provided two-hit games at the plate, while Barry Eiseman and Evan Wickeri both had three-hit games with two doubles each. Veniard went 5 innings and only gave up two hits and two earned runs to earn the win in his college debut after redshirting in 2019 and missing 2020 due to injury. Andrew Myers and Patrick Groark pitched a scoreless inning in relief each.

Game Three

In Saturday's rubber match for the series, an early pitching duel saw the Blue Wave take a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the 5th before they scored 9 runs over the next 3 innings and won the game 10-4, taking the series 2-1 over SPC. Dylan Dudones cruised through 5 scoreless innings before giving up 4 in the 6th, striking out 6 in 5.2 inning pitched in his college starting debut. Myers followed suit with 2.1 scoreless innings pitched to collect the win, and Wickeri closed it out with a scoreless 9th. Offensively, Chun continued his hot start with a 4 for 5 game, including 2 RBI. Blake Wood had 3 RBI of his own. Josh Green and Jayme Villafane had multi-hit games.

Overview

FSCJ pounded out 28 hits in the series, including 9 extra base hits. The Blue Wave pitching staff limited St. Pete to 8 walks in 23 innings of work.
