FSCJ Falls to St. Johns River in Season Opener
PALATKA, FLA. -- Florida State College at Jacksonville falls to St. Johns River State College in the 2022 season opener for the Blue Wave.

FSCJ fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 13-3 loss to St. Johns River State College on Tuesday evening. Free bases haunted the Blue Wave pitching staff, allowing 12 walks and 3 hit by pitches. The Vikings of SJR scored three in the first and five in the second and never turned back.
Colby Lipovsky took the loss for the Blue Wave, going 1.1 innings and allowing 7 runs, all earned, on two hits and 6 walks. Alex Hurwitz was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 2 innings and striking out three, allowing only one run via a solo home run. Jayme Villafane was a bright spot for FSCJ as he clubbed his first career home run in the sixth inning, scoring two. Evan Wickeri provided a two-hit night for the Blue Wave, as well. FSCJ drew even with SJR in the hit column with 8 apiece, but could not overcome the early deficit.
