Rolland, Boyd combine for 30 in loss to Santa Fe

The BlueWave women's basketball team returned home to close out the final game in round one of conference play against the Saints of Santa Fe College.

FSCJ, who are 4-18 on the season and 0-2 in conference play, will face Santa Fe in hopes of handing them a second loss in conference play. The Saints are currently 10-10 for the season and 1-1 in conference action.

From the tip the game was off to a hectic pace as both teams were fighting for the next notch in the win column. The BlueWave down 15-9 into the final minutes of the first quarter, battled back after a 6 to 2 run that closed the gap to 17-16 at the end of the first quarter.

The Saints went on a 10-2 run to open up the second quarter and wouldn't relinquish the lead. The BlueWave battled but a series of missed opportunities found them watching as Santa Fe expanded the lead after a 32-17 second quarter performace. Halftime had FSCJ rolling into the locker room down 49-33.

The third quarter was not pretty for the BlueWave as Santa Fe continued on the fast paced performance of the first half. FSCJ went on an offensive drought only scoring nine points to Santa Fe's 25, bringing the third quarter score to 74-42. The final quarter saw a surge from the BlueWave as a last ditch effort provided them a 23-11 lead over the Saints, but unfortunately the damage was done. The Saints would record their second win in conference play with a 85-65 victory over the BlueWave.

Mataea Boyd finished the game with 16 points, her second-highest since putting up 21 over Elite Sports Prep. Rhy'Keria Rolland found success shooting from deep going 4-6 from behind the arc and finishing with 14 points giving her the sixth double-digit scoring game of the season. This is the twelfth game that FSCJ has scored 60 or more points.

With the loss, FSCJ drops to 4-19. The BlueWave head south to Ocala, FL. to take on the College of Central Florida Wednesday, January 29 at 5:30 p.m.
