BlueWave fall short in conference opener despite Rolland's career high efforts

It was a slow start to a much anticipated day for the Florida State College at Jacksonville women as they opened Mid-Florida Conference play versus College of Central Florida.

The BlueWave struggled to score from behind the arc and couldn't answer the Patriots hot start.  FSCJ saw themselves down to the Patriots 26-13 as the first quarter closed. The BlueWave would start to make strides as freshmen Tykedra Rolland would lead a charge to help the BlueWave win the second quarter versus the Patriots of College of Central Florida 25-18.  Florida State College at Jacksonville would close the gap to within six of College of Central Florida 44-38 lead into the locker room.

The BlueWave women would pick right where they left off in the second quarter.  FSCJ's defense would prove to be a great asset as they held the Patriots to eleven points and would win the quarter 22-11.  Freshmen Mataea Boytd would lead a charge of her own which helped to turn a six point deficit turn to a 55-50 lead heading into the final quarter. The fourth quarter would be a back and forth battle for both teams.  It would be include multiple lead changes and different players stepping up to make plays to keep their team on top.  Sophomore Joseline Ramos would come up huge down the stretch with several clutch plays to keep the BlueWave in the hunt.

With 4.7 secs left in regulation play, the BlueWave would find themselves down one with the ball in front of their bench. With one shot left to win it, Central Florida would apply tight defense and make FSCJ work for that entry pass. Freshmen Tykedra Rolland would find herself on the other end of that pass and worked for her best shot in the paint, but it would fall short and BlueWave would fall in their conference opened 74-73 to the College of Central Florida.

Freshmen Tykedra Rolland recorded her career high 25 pts, Joseline Ramos followed with 13 points and freshmen Mataea Boyd recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Up next for the BlueWave is a conference game on the road to face Daytona State College at 5:30 p.m. next Wednesday before returning home to host Santa Fe College Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
