Led by freshmen MataeaBoyd and sophomore Asia Harden Florida State College at Jacksonville women's basketball topped Elite Sports, 88-42, in day one of the Daytona State Holiday Classic.

The BlueWave fresh off a thirteen day break from the Christmas break participated in day one of the Daytona State holiday Classic facing Elite Sports. The BlueWave started the first quarter off a little slow until a lay-up by freshmen Mataea Boyd got things underway for FSCJ. Defense was active and aggressive for the BlueWave, giving them a commanding 8-0 run to lead Elite Sports 18-10 at the end of the first quarter.

FSCJ would open the second quarter hot from the behind the arc as freshmen Victoria Smalls hit back to back three point shots. The BlueWave would continue to dominate the quarter and see every player on the roster score taking a commanding 24-8 second quarter effort to bring the halftime score to 42-18.

The second half would have the BlueWave starting off slow, forcing them to call a few timeouts early to get back on track. Elite Sports would take advantage and go on a 10-0 run to close the gap. The problems would continue for the BlueWave as they gave up eighteen points in the third allowing Elite Sports to close the gap winning the quarter 24-21. In the fourth quarter, Elite Sports was held to zero points in the final quarter by FSCJ's defensive efforts. The BlueWave maintained a dominating lead and won the game 88-42.

"This was a great team win', stated David Lowery FSCJ's women's basketball coach. "We did a solid job in the fourth quarter defending and rebounding. I'm really happy about how we responded to their runs and most importantly being short-handed coming back off Christmas break. We had a few different players make huge plays at many different points in the game and that was really exciting to see."

Two players achieved double doubles this game with Mataea Boyd leading the charge with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Asia Harden 13 points and 10 assists. Tykedra Rolland dropped 12 points along with four teammates who contributed 10 points a piece; Victoria Smalls, RhyKeria Rolland, Valicia Demeritte and Joseline Ramos who also poured in 7 assists.
