Coach Lowery Gets First Win in Lady Jets Thanksgiving Classic

Thanksgiving break was spent on the road for the FSCJ women's basketball program as they traveled to Americus, Georgia. The team took part in the Lady Jets Thanksgiving Classic hosted by South Georgia Tech College Nov 29th and Nov 30th.

The first day found the BlueWave facing the Titans of Central Georgia Tech College (5-2). The first quarter was neck and neck, but the BlueWave prevailed 15-14 to start off the Classic. The momentum stayed in FSCJ's favor in the second quarter, the 14-13 effort kept CGTC at bay 29-27 going into halftime.

The second half spun the same tale as the first for both team as FSCJ found themselves still fighting to keep the lead. The BlueWave Titans came out ready to play in the third quarter staying on top 17-16, making it a closer game than wanted as the quarter ended 46-43. The BlueWave were not comfortable with the margin and were not about to let the game slip away in the fourth quarter, but the Titans saw the opportunity to gain control and did just that. A 16-14 quarter in Central Georgia Tech's favor had the BlueWave fighting to keep the lead until the horn sounded and the final score posted, 61-60 BlueWave.

First-year Head Coach David S. Lowery picks up his first career win at Florida State College at Jacksonville. Valicia Demeritte led all scorers with 17 points going 6-10 from the field and 5-5 from the free throw line with 5 rebounds. Teammates Asia Harden added 11 points, 4 rebounds and Bryana Henderson 10 point and 3 assists.

Day two was not quite the same outcome as the day before for the BlueWave who faced the host team South Gerogia Tech College.

A cold start froze the BlueWave in the first quarter giving SGTC a 27-5 jump into the game. Starting to thaw out in the second quarter FSCJ gave SGTC a more competitive quarter going 10-19. Halftime did not come soon enough for the BlueWave down 15-46 to the Lady Jets.

The second half saw an entirely different FSCJ team as they pulled ahead of SGTC 12-11 at the end of the third quarter and again 16-13 in the fourth. But it wasn't enough for the BlueWave to recover from the 31 point first half deficit as they fell to South Gerogia Tech College 43-70.

Sophomore guard Asia Harden had 14 points to lead her BlueWave team.
