Long-Range Shooting Shuts Down Bluewave

Long-Range Shooting Shuts Down Bluewave

Florida State College at Jacksonville women's basketball team had their home opener Wednesday night versus visiting Hillsborough Community College.

The Hawks of Hillsborough buried back-to-back three-pointers on multiple occasions and never looked back as FSCJ women's basketball fell to the Eagles, 79-70.

FSCJ opened the game with a 9-2 run and started the night off with the defensive intensity it needed to defend Hillsborough.  Hillsborough would settle in and close the 1st quarter lead to one making it  9-8. The Hawks finished the first quarter after a 19-6 run to take a 25-15 lead.

The second quarter started with the Hillsborough coming out on fire. FSCJ couldn't stop the barrage of buckets and would go into halftime down 42-29.

The third quarter started with an FSCJ 5-0 run and quickly gain momentum to close the Hillsborough lead to three, but Hillsborough's range buried the BlueWave again. FSCJ would battle to win the third and fourth quarters, but it wasn't enough to come out on top from the damage that was done in the first half.

"We really struggled executing our defensive game plan and protecting the three-point line", state Coach Lowery. "We didn't play with enough awareness or communication to give ourselves a chance today."

BlueWave Bryana Henderson contributed an FSCJ career high 22 points and added five steals and five assists to the stat line. While Mataea Boyd added 12 points, five rebounds and Valicia Demeritte dropped 10 points and grabbed six boards. Aasiya Berry had 8 points and Rosa Vreugd 7.

The BlueWave fall to 0-3 and head to Tallahassee Community College Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip.
