FSCJ BlueWave Athletics Announces David Lowery as Head Women's Basketball Coach

FSCJ BlueWave Athletics Announces David Lowery as Head Women's Basketball Coach

Florida State College at Jacksonville's BlueWave Athletics Department welcomes David Lowery as the women's basketball head coach.

Coach Lowery joins the BlueWave staff with 17 years of college coaching experience. Lowery was most recently the associate head coach at the University of North Florida (UNF). Prior to UNF, he spent several years as an assistant coach for the University of Florida (UF) Gators women's basketball program. Before arriving to the Florida basketball community, Lowery held stints at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC) and Davidson College. Coach Lowery has been regarded as one of the top recruiting coordinators in women's basketball.

"We are incredibly excited about Coach Lowery joining the athletic department staff at FSCJ," said Director of Athletics Ginny Alexander. "He brings great enthusiasm, commitment to the community and formidable recruiting experience to our program. His reputation in recruiting and developing players, both locally and statewide, is extremely positive."

While serving as the associate head coach at UNF (2015-18), Lowery helped recruit three ASUN Conference Newcomers of the Year and two ASUN All-Freshman Team members, and helped the team to back-to-back ASUN semifinals appearances. Prior to UNF, he spent eight years as an assistant coach at UF (2007-15), where he coordinated the Gators' recruiting efforts and assisted with player development. Lowery brought 10 ESPN Top 100 recruits to UF, including the first McDonald's All-American in UF Women's Basketball history. He also helped the Gators to three NCAA Tournament appearances (2009, 2012 and 2014) and four WNIT appearances (2008, 2010, 2011 and 2013), reaching the Final Four in 2013.

Prior to UF, Lowery served as an assistant coach at UNC Charlotte (2005-07), where he helped the 49ers to the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championship and trips to the 2006 and 2007 WNIT, and Davidson College (2001-05). During both of those stints, he worked as the recruiting coordinator and oversaw each team's academic progress.

"I want to thank Athletic Director Ginny Alexander and the Women's Basketball Search Committee for the opportunity to be the next head coach at FSCJ," said Lowery. "I appreciate all of the former head coaches who have mentored me for the last 17 years to prepare for this professional opportunity. My intention is to build a championship program that is known locally and statewide as the premier two-year college option for female basketball players in the northeast Florida and southeast Georgia area."

Lowery graduated from Mississippi State in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education.
