Second match-up with Santa Fe not in BlueWave favor

Second match-up with Santa Fe not in BlueWave favor

Losing to Santa Fe just two weeks ago at home by a large margin, FSCJ was looking to secure a win at their opponent's home.

Coach Barvenia Wooten, in an effort to motivate her team prior to the start of the game challenged the BlueWave team by asking "What will we go home known for?". The BlueWave hyped and ready to play worked to follow the game plan to neutralize Santa Fe's three point shooters by aggressively defending the three point shot and getting back on transition. The Saints of Santa Fe, however, came out energized and attacking the rim which allowed them quick conversion opportunities giving them an early 7 – 1 lead in the game. The BlueWave called a timeout to settle the team but that was not enough as Santa Fe secured a 14 point lead by the end of the first quarter. With the BlueWave's shooting going cold, they struggled to connect shooting 7 for 34 finishing with a 20% field goal percentage creating their own disadvantage. The Saints continued on their run throughout the second quarter hitting key shots that ended with FSCJ down 17-37 to end the half.

Halftime came with plenty of adjustments for the BlueWave as they changed to a zone defense in hopes of slowing down the Saints. With a zone in place FSCJ planned to be able to defend the three point shots from the corner while placing them in better rebounding position. Optimistic about closing in on the deficient, FSCJ had no choice but to continue to keep shooting despite the first half slump. It wasn't too long until Santa Fe once again found their rhythm and outscored FSCJ once again in the third quarter. After a quick timeout the BlueWave made an offensive adjustment that gave Kayla Mansell the opportunity to hit three 3 point shots over the stretch leading the team in scoring with 19 points. Monique Bryant found success driving and hitting pulling up jumpers in the fourth quarter and becoming the second leading scorer with 16 points. BUt it was not enough with the BlueWave coming up short 47-67.
