FSCJ Cross Country Posts Four PR’s at the USF Invitational

On Friday, the FSCJ cross country teams traveled to "The Claw" Golf Course at the University of South Florida to compete in the USF Bulls XC Invitational.

The women's team was led by sophomore Meghan Bonser with a new PR of 22:38. She was followed closely by Zandi Pienaar, Kayleigh McWatters, Whitney Mathis, and Abigail Gray. The ladies placed 12th out of 21 colleges that competed.

"This was a very hot race on a soaking wet and muddy course," commented Head Coach Jody Hale. "This team ran really well today!"

The men's team was once again led by sophomore Brennan Popik with a time of 28:25. Finishing just 6 seconds back was sophomore Adrian Figueroa, who moved back into the #2 spot for the team. Jaxon McKim was 12 seconds back, followed by fast kicking Luke Williams, and then Noe Benitez. Williams and Benitez both set new personal records by breaking the 30-minute barrier for the first time. Williams entered the All-Time Top 10 list at #10 with his performance on Friday. Corey Rhoads also clocked a new personal best of 31:30.

"Any time we set PR's [personal records] and see a change in the Top 10 List, we had a great day," added Coach Hale. "And I'm super happy with a 1:23 pack time."

The USF Invitational concluded regular season competition for the BlueWave, who will next travel to Apalachee Regional Park in two weeks for the FSCCA/NJCAA Region 8 Cross Country Championships.
