Wearing their pink jersey's, the BlueWave women's basketball team showed their support against breast cancer. The team filled the gym with pink decorations and balloons in an effort to bring awareness to breast cancer for the annual Pink game.
The BlueWave ready to compete from the start of the game found themselves on the receiving end of the jump ball. An aggressive effort was played on both ends of the floor by FSCJ against the Falcons of Daytona State who are 4-1 in conference play. An action packed back and forth bucket fest had FSCJ only down 11-15 when with 2.2 seconds left in the first quarter, Kayla Mansell comitted a foul. Being in the bonus, Falcon player Green went to the free throw line and converted all three of her free throws putting FSCJ down by seven. With a bit of a swing in momentum going into the second quarter, FSCJ changed up their defense in an effort to slow down Daytona. The BlueWave having a short bench found themselves trying to keep pace with Daytona's changing line up every few minutes. Early into the second quarter it was a running match between teams and once again a bucket for bucket game. With the clock winding down Daytona went on a 9-2 expanding the BlueWave deficit to 16 points.
Halftime allowed the team to make some defensive adjustments and emphasize the need to box out to eliminate second chance opportunities. The second half started with a balanced effort for the BlueWaves until Daytona broke free expanding the third quarter score to 26-53. Working to conserve the teams energy, FSCJ slowed their offensive pace working the shot clock down. However, FSCJ struggled to connect from the floor and even going only 4 for 10 from the free throw line. The BlueWave never recovered and found themselves down 37-71 when the final horn sounded.
Sophomore, Monique Bryant ended the game with 19 points and 6 rebounds.
