FSCJ second half surge not enough to top St. Pete

FSCJ second half surge not enough to top St. Pete

The Florida State College at Jacksonville BlueWave women's basketball team hosted the Titans of St. Petersburg College in Friday's matchup.

The Titans ability to run the floor and their aggressive pace stunned the BlueWave despite their preparation to slow them down. FSCJ struggled to get under control as SPC took a dominant lead in the first quarter 8-22. The second half found the BlueWave more composed and finding their groove offensively battling St. Pete to a 15-20 second quarter. But it was not enough to close the gap as the half came to an end with a score of 23-42.

Halftime gave the BlueWave the time they needed to make adjustments and to come out with a more competitive mindset. That comeback attitude helped FSCJ chip away at St. Pete's lead as the BlueWave knocked down the first ten points in the third quarter. The BlueWave continued their surge to outscore the Titans 20-9 to come within eight points to end the third quarter 43-51. The fourth quarter saw St. Pete hitting from behind the arc re-igniting their offense and propelling them to a finall 12-22 run on FSCJ to close out the game with a final score of 55-73.

Gift Sampson led all scorers with 11 points, four rebounds and went 5-6 from the freethrow line. Mariah Preston and Mariah Lane both finished with double-double's scoring 10 points and pulling 14 rebounds a piece.

FSCJ women move to a record of 1-3 for the season. They will return to action at home versus the defending NJCAA National Champions Tallahassee Community College on Tuesday November 13th at 5:30pm.
